Farming accidents often involve heavy machinery and result in injuries from finger and hand amputations to death. Crop harvest and storage pose the risk of burns, falls, and crush injuries. Working with livestock can result in both acute and chronic injuries.
Large dairy farms have a higher incidence of hand and wrist injury related to the milking equipment and repetitive nature of the task. This is not the case in smaller dairy farms that utilize stanchion milking systems.
As farms tend to become larger and more industrialized, and demand for larger herds and milk production continues to increase, hand and wrist injuries will also increase.
